A mermaid in Braine-l’Alleud | Bronzetto’s enchanted touch for Salon d’Hiver

In the heart of Belgium, in Braine-l’Alleud, lies a small treasure trove of beauty and creativity: Salon d’Hiver, the concept store imagined and curated by Axelle Weustenraad, an interior designer and the visionary soul behind a space where every detail tells a story.

The art of personalized detail

Uniqueness, quality, endless possibilities — these are the three words Axelle uses to describe Bronzetto. Values that are fully reflected in our Florentine workshop’s ability to turn an idea into an object that speaks of and for the client.

The mermaid created for Salon d’Hiver is more than just a handle: it’s a signature piece, a brand extension, and a perfect example of our ability to develop custom elements like signage, plaques, and logo-inspired hardware.

Salon d’Hiver is not just a store: it’s a space where design meets emotion. And this mermaid, with her graceful, fairytale silhouette, is its perfect ambassador.

The right encounter at the right time

The first meeting with Bronzetto happened at a design fair in Paris. “I met the Bronzetto team at Horecatel,” says Axelle. “As an interior designer, I’m always on the hunt for unique creations, and their stand truly stood out. I was looking for someone to co-create a front door handle for my new store… and it turned out to be the perfect match at the perfect moment.”

The idea was bold: an oversized mermaid-shaped door handle, inspired by the store’s own logo. A symbolic and highly recognizable element that goes beyond decoration to become a visual narrative of the brand.

But boldness doesn’t scare us: “They immediately said yes. Nothing stops them. They are true artisans — incredibly talented.”

From drawing to brass: the birth of a mermaid

Behind the creation of this sculptural handle lies a multi-step process that perfectly embodies Bronzetto’s spirit: a seamless blend of technology and craftsmanship, experimentation and tradition.

The mermaid was digitally sculpted by Francesco, one of Bronzetto’s artisans, starting from initial sketches and visual references shared with Axelle. A 3D printed prototype was then created to fine-tune proportions and details, before being cast in brass, resulting in a solid, expressive, and long-lasting piece.

A detail that leaves a mark

Alongside a selection of knobs and handles for the store’s interiors, the true centerpiece of the project is this tailor-made door handle — a one-of-a-kind mermaid in brass, designed to amaze and welcome.

“Every person walking past the store reacts to it,” says Axelle. “They say first impressions count, and this one is certainly striking — and very positive. I have the most beautiful door handle in the entire country!”

The project involved care, collaboration, and continuous exchange: “We shared technical drawings, discussed needs and expectations. When I received the package, I was amazed — and surprised by the weight! It’s truly substantial. I’m incredibly proud.”
