The Duomo Dome Lamp: a project between cultures and materials

Behind every bespoke project there are hands, faces, experiences, and traditions woven together in constant dialogue. This is what happens every day at Bronzetto, where encounters with creatives and designers from around the world find fertile ground in Florence: a city that preserves artisanal knowledge and makes it accessible to those who wish to transform it into unique objects.

It was in this spirit that the suspension lamp was born, reinterpreting the Dome of Florence’s Cathedral, a symbol that has endured through the centuries and here comes to life again through the combination of two strong and very different materials: brass and leather.

The meeting with Reuben Yang and Chiayu Liu

The project was conceived by Taiwanese product designers Reuben Yang and Chiayu Liu, who are deeply connected to Florence and its art. Their idea stemmed from a simple yet powerful reflection: to offer visitors to the city an authentic keepsake, an object of fine craftsmanship, far removed from the mass-produced reproductions found at tourist stalls. A souvenir that could be, at the same time, contemporary design and a memory of the city.

From sketch to prototype: craftsmanship as a bridge

Every detail of the lamp was designed to capture the solemnity of Brunelleschi’s dome.

  • The brass structure recalls its architectural geometry.
  • The leather covering softens its silhouette, adding warmth and texture.
  • The filtered light enhances the volumes, creating an intimate atmosphere that blends tradition with contemporaneity.

Behind the scenes, our artisans devoted time and expertise to finding the right solutions so that the project could take shape exactly as envisioned by the designers. It is a process made of welding, fitting, testing, and adjustments—but above all of care and mutual listening.

A symbol transformed into design

The Duomo Dome Lamp is more than just a furnishing piece; it is a bridge between cultures: the Florentine one, rooted in the tradition of bronze and bespoke design, and the Taiwanese one, bringing a fresh and international perspective.

It perfectly embodies the idea that the time spent designing together is the most precious element: time that allows an idea to become reality, without compromise.
